Who We Are

A movement led by sex workers, for sex workers

The Kenya Sex Workers Alliance (KESWA) is an umbrella body of formal and informal sex worker–led organizations, established in 2009. We amplify the voices of sex workers by connecting these organizations in their diversity to influence the intersectional needs of sex workers in Kenya. Over 90% of our board, advisory committee and staff are sex workers.

What We Do

Our core work

Legal & Human Rights

Advancing recognition of sex work as work and reforming punitive laws that criminalise sex workers’ lives.

Access to Justice

Training sex workers as paralegals and human rights defenders to claim their rights and seek redress.

Health & HIV

Friendly, non-discriminatory health services and HIV prevention, treatment and maternal health.

Economic Empowerment

Income, skills and economic security so sex workers can exercise real choice and independence.

Safety & Security

Documenting violence, supporting survivors, and building community safety responses.

Movement Building

Convening 75+ member organizations into one strong, unified national voice.

Our Approach

How we create change

A clear strategy, rooted in the leadership of sex workers, that turns evidence into rights.

90%+

of our board, advisory committee and staff are sex workers. This movement is led by and for the community.
